The hotel was opened in August 1985. Since 1997 when lavish renovation and extension works were carried out, it has been marked by an overall design scheme in rich Mediterranean colours. Stone-pine trees, earthy-cream coloured materials, rattan and Italian accents-style now form the character of the inner world of the Alsterkrug hotel entering as far as the likewise newly designed banquet- and conference rooms. All 105 hotel rooms are furnished in bright, friendly and warm colours with very high-quality furniture. In some rooms there is a pantry for long-term guests or a four-poster bed and a Jacuzzi for bridal couples. All rooms have Internet access, wireless-LAN, a second telephone and all the other technical fittings of a first-class hotel. The Alsterkrug-hotel is especially remarkable for its devotion to detail. All the pictures in the renovated rooms were painted by a commissioned artist specially to fit in with the furnishings and the theme. Our guests should have the feeling like they are almost at home"". In other ways as well the idea of ""hotel as a service experience"" plays an important role, for example with ironing- and cleaning service, page and table laying service and a 24-hours room service (among other things coffee and tea for free)."
